Arkansas coronavirus cases rise by 236, to pass 7,000 total

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Arkansas has surpassed 7,000 and one additional death is reported due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, the Arkansas Department of Health reported on Saturday.

The department said there are now at least 7,013 cases and 133 deaths, up from 6,777 cases and 132 deaths reported Friday.

The true number is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.

The state health department reported that 5,166 people have recovered from the virus and that 104 were hospitalized, down from 113 hospitalizations reported on Friday.
