About 60 people attend town hall meeting in Kiowa over AAHN's Place coming to town

 

Nearly 60 people turned out at a town hall meeting in Kiowa.

On Monday evening, approximately 60 people attended a town hall meeting at Kiowa's Community Building. South Barber USD255 Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller had called the meeting after Derrick Prichard, owner/director of AAHN'S Place at Wellington, Kansas, spoke at the May Kiowa City Council meeting.

At that council meeting Prichard explained that he would like to open a foster care facility in Kiowa that serves boys age 13-18. He would like to remodel the former Guest Lodge motel at 505 Miller St. in Kiowa to make a maximum 12-bed facility. Prichard has a 28-bed facility in Wellington that open...

Absolutely agree, I live a few blocks away from Wellington facility and have seen first hand the lack of supervision. Neighbor's car stolen, tires slashed and disrespect. The Wellington facility is a disaster and hopefully it shuts down. Kiowa needs to keep AAHNS place out.

I live in Wellington and AAHN'S Place is a continual hot spot. I believe AAHN'S Place is trying to reform troubled kids and doing their best but the breakouts, police interaction and constant disrespect of property is a problem. I do believe a bigger town would serve their needs in a more appropriate setting and I don't blame you for your decision.
