Burlington reemploys staff and approves school calendar for 2020-21 school year

Burlington School Board President Terry Graham called the May meeting to order with the following members present: Robert Hill, April Kisling and Aaron Smith. T. J. Rockenbach was absent. Superintendent Dr. Stacey Croft was also present as was Principal Tim Bart and Minutes Clerk Tamre McGinnis. They held the meeting in the IETV Room.
The board voted to re-employ those personnel listed on attached exhibit A, plus Jenny Stewart. Those names are: Alisha Matzke, Aliene Gosselin, Brenda Russell, Rhonda Pinkston, Cheryl Czerniak, Mark Guffy, Jennifer Heatherman, Brenda Stricker and Tamre McGinnis.
The school calendar for the 2020-21 school year (Option 1) received board approval with the caveat of moving graduation to May 14. The first day of school is Aug. 13. Fall break is Oct. 14-16. Christmas vacation is Dec. 21- Jan. 1. Second semester starts Jan. 4. No school will be held March 12 and Spring Break is March 15-19. No school will be held on Good Friday, April 2, or the Monday after Easter, April 5. Graduation is May 13.
Joe Schrader, with Oklahoma LED Lighting, met via Zoom with the board regarding new cost-saving lighting products. The company has been through all Burlington's school buildings, inspected the lighting in every room and reviewed the last 12 months electrical bills. In converting to LED lighting the school is told they could potentially drop electrical costs by 70 percent. The board directed the superintendent to get more bids on the project and bring the matter back at a future meeting.
The following financial business received board approval: General Fund Encumbrances 341–351 $25,882.74 and Warrants 987–1140 $430,743.23; Child Nutrition Fund Encumbrances 15–16 $2,500 and Warrants 42–74 $19,088.47; and Building Bond Fund 35 Encumbrance 7 $81,787.80 and Warrant 9 $81,787.80.
The board approved many other business items including the April 2020 Activity Fund Report; the contract with Alcohol & Drug Testing Inc. (ADTI) for the 2020/2021 school year; an extended school year summer program for a student; the contract for audit from Charles Carroll auditing firm for the 2019/2020 fiscal year to be conducted during the 2020/2021 fiscal year; to offer student insurance with Student Resources for 2020/2021; the Tom Cameron & Associates (TCA) quote for $5,916 to do Title programs and special education programs for the 2020/2021 school year; the contract with Angel, Johnston & Blasingame P.C. for school treasurer for the 2020/2021 school year; participation of Burlington Public School in the 2020/2021 E-rate program; Mica Andrews as the designated E-rate contact for Burlington Public School; temporary appropriations for the 2020/2021 fiscal year at the rate of 90% rate: General Fund – $5,462,000; Building Fund – $568,000; and Child Nutrition Fund – $106,000.
