Be thankful for the right to protest
June 28, 2020
I hope you had a good Father’s Day. Saturday is the 4th of July. May your punks stay lit, your crackers all pop, and you get to pig out.
This year protesters, looters and rioters should be especially thankful for our country. Protesters notwithstanding, if these people pulled the crap they do in the land of the free in China, Korea, Russia, and several African nations at the least they would be jailed and most likely be shot. When someone else protests their deaths, they would suffer the same fate. I may not agree with what these protesters are about all the time, but thank God if I want to join in I can do it safely.
On a related note, I heard a rumor the Black Lives Matter movement is being renamed. It is now the Black Lives Matter If You Are Shot by a Policeman movement.
In Chicago, over Father's Day weekend 104 people were shot with 15 being fatal including a three-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. The police commissioner said the violence is related to gangs, guns and drugs. I couldn't find what percentage were black or officer-involved shootings.
What I want to know is, where are the protesters? If you believe all lives matter, or for that matter just black lives matter, why aren't your groups outside of gang and drug houses protesting and asking them to get out of your city? If you get these problems under control, police could do their jobs without worrying about their lives every time they make a stop, and all people would be safer. If anyone out there knows a Black Lives Matter member, have them contact me with the answers to my questions.
I kept seeing a group named Antifa. I didn't know what they were about, so I looked them up. Antifa is a Communist organization and believes that the only means to achieve social equality and to defeat fascists is through violence. Antifa groups claim that they act to protect minorities. This is not a Johnny come lately bunch. They have been active back to the thirties in Germany and Italy. They can be a good thing if they stick to their primary beliefs: Primarily they represent the moral good in our society. Antifa represents equality, justice, fairness, and they oppose hate, hierarchy, and oppression. Unfortunately like lots of groups sometimes they get off bubble a bit. Anyhow, now you know as much about them as I do. I probably won't be joining them any time soon.
I guess I missed it somewhere. I don't think I ever looked at Aunt Jemima syrup, Uncle Ben's rice, or any other product with someone of color on them and had racist thoughts! It also is sad Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and Mrs. Butterworth got fired just because they were black.
My friend Bubba's town without a police force:
911: What's your emergency?
Bubba: I need to report an attempted burglary.
911: Shall I send out a social worker?
Bubba: No, I need the department of sanitation.
911: Department of sanitation?
Bubba: Yes. I need to know whether to put this dead piece of crap on the curb for regular Wednesday trash pickup or if they want to pick it up now. And that's how it will be without police.
Observations on growing older: Remember when your mother said, "Wear clean underwear in case you GET in an accident"? Now you bring clean underwear for when you HAVE an accident!
