Before the meeting began Monday, the Woods County Commissioners signed a sympathy card for County Clerk Shelley Reed. Her mother, Jewel LeDou, passed away on Sunday. First Deputy Clerk Grant Gibson filled in for her at the meeting. All three commissioners were present: David Hamil, Randy McMurphy and John Smiley.

The commissioners gave permission for the use of the courthouse lawn for the “Lights Over Alva” event on Aug. 29. The night of live music, games and food trucks is designed to welcome university students back for the fall semester. The public is also welcome to attend.
