Tourism taxes approved for Lights Over Alva

Kathryn Baugh describes the Lights Over Alva concert venue set for Aug. 29 in Alva to welcome NWOSU students. She asked for tourism tax help with expenses at the committee meeting Wednesday.

Kathryn Baugh wants to show her fellow university students there's more to Alva than businesses along the highway. That's why she's involved in "Lights Over Alva," an annual concert venue on the courthouse square downtown. She found most students don't know about events downtown like the car show, the biggest in the state.

Baugh spoke during the Alva Tourism and Convention Development Committee meeting Wednesday, July 15. Heavily promoted on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus, the event has attracted good crowds the past two years. Baugh said about 80 percent of students partici...
