First Kids & Cops Gary Sanderson Scholarships presented

Since the Kids & Cops began in 2016, the organization has grown both in the amount of donations and the events they have sponsored. The first event was a deserving youngster paired with a law enforcement officer to shop for Christmas gifts. The past couple of summers, the group organized a day of family fun in Hatfield Park.

For the first time this year, Kids & Cops collected donations for $500 college scholarships to graduating Alva seniors. Monday night at the city council meeting, Police Chief Ben Orcutt explained scholarships are named in honor of Gary Sanderson who retired as police chief...
