Ruth Brown was the librarian of the Bartlesville public library for more than 30 years until the city’s commissioners fired her in 1950.

Brown was born in Hiawatha, Kansas, in 1891. She graduated from high school in California where her family lived for several years.

In 1910 she took courses at the Northwestern Normal School in Alva, graduating after a few months with a lifetime public schools teaching certificate. In 1915 she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
