Following directions is a lifetime skill. For those of a certain age, “close cover before striking” was an early example. It referred to a book of matches that had a flap to cover the package before striking one on a strip of phosphorus at the bottom.
Following directions has many benefits. Before the age of GPS and navigation devices, getting to a location was a much greater challenge. One soon discovered that “turn left at the second stoplight” might not include the stoplight where you started. Communication is paramount and listening is also a lifetime skill.
