Burlington School News: COVID-19 restrictions versus online schooling

October 2, 2020

Sixth graders enjoy lunch in the classroom, as part of safety precautions.

COVID-19 has affected this school year in many ways. There have been restrictions put on the students' privileges for their protection. Before entering buses or the school, the student's temperature has to be taken.

For now the students eat breakfast and lunch in their classrooms with their class sponsor, and cannot leave campus or go to the gym. The students sit in assigned seats during each class and classrooms must be sanitized between classes. Students also bring water bottles since the school's water fountains are not being used for the prevention of spreading COVID-19.

The students are definitely ready for school to go back to normal so they can have the opportunity to have a more open lunch hour. One positive of this year is not being made to wear face masks while in school. Other schools around us have made face masks mandatory. The students are happy to have the privilege to choose whether they want to wear a face mask or not.

Despite the restrictions, this school year is still better than having to do school online. The students worked virtually during the last nine weeks of school last year and did not enjoy this option.
