Letter from the commander

Lots of work going on at the American Legion

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to Saturday's clean up and beautification project at the Hatch-Vincent Post #63. There was a good turn out and plenty of food to go around. We got a lot of projects underway and the kitchen thoroughly cleaned. On Oct. 24 the school will be having their annual carnival and we are looking forward to having all of those projects finished up for their festivities.

Once we finish the beautification project we will start working on updating and cleaning up the veterans memorial on the corner. The bushes need some updating, the flagpoles need fixing and the memorial itself needs some maintenance. If anyone has any suggestions for this project please contact me.

Hatch-Vincent auxiliary will be hosting their annual Veteran's Day Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 11. There are plans to unveil a project that the ag and art students at the school have been constructing for the Legion. Join us for dinner to honor our country's veterans and see the new wall display.

Also, the Legion's Hometown Hero article will now be past and present veterans in and/or from the Freedom area. If you have a veteran you want represented, please contact me at 816-541-9629. I have a list of veterans but need help with their stories along with highlighting them and their military service. I have not written every Hometown Hero article that has been submitted. Sometimes there are better authors for their stories. If you have something written for your veteran, get it to me and we will submit it to the Freedom Call.

Freedom, Oklahoma, is a great place to be and the members of Hatch-Vincent are proud to contribute when and where we can to our town's future, while building Unity in the Community through common interests and grounds.
