Acute and chronic pain

Pain is something we all live with and some have more than others. There is a distinction between acute and chronic. Medicine defines pain as a symptom of an underlying condition. Pain has its purpose, usually to motivate the body to withdraw from a damaging situation. Most pain is resolved quickly by assessing the cause and avoiding the source in the future.

Sometimes pain arises for no apparent reason and no diagnosis is found, but pain is pain and it interferes with quality of life even to the point of debilitation. Acute pain resolves quickly, sometimes in a few seconds and at other times...
