Grow and Share OHCE October meeting

Grow and Share OHCE met for its regular monthly meeting at the home of Misty Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 13, with Misty and Cheryl Diefenbach serving as co-hostesses. President Janet Cunningham called the meeting to order. All present recited the flag salute. Cheryl shared a devotional from “Faith to Faith” based on I Corinthians 13:7-8 on "Revolutionary Love." All members present answered roll call to "Share a de-cluttering tip with your group." Eight members were present.

Minutes for the September meeting were approved as corrected and the treasurer's report was given.

Communications discussed included a letter from the State OHCE congratulating Grow and Share on its award for the Membership Report. A check for $20 was included. Cunningham also reported that a thank-you note for the fall display on the square had been received from the Chamber's retail committee.

In the Resource Management Committee report, Cunningham reported that the education board on saving water was completed and is now on display at an office building front window on the downtown square. She also reported that 95 printer cartridges were turned in at the fall association meeting. The funds for recycling of the cartridges will be given to Northwest Behavioral Health for its arts and crafts program.

Under the Unfinished Business agenda item, Cunningham reported that the officer list, fair exhibit list and leader's lesson suggestion list had all been turned into the county office. Cunningham attended the fall association meeting, where she was given several old reports that she returned to members. Jean reported that she had submitted dues and had also made Grow and Share's contributions to Pennies for Friendship and La Preciocita.

Jean reported on the sanitation worker appreciation project. Twelve workers were each given a $15 gift certificate to Alva's Market. She thanked all who contributed, including Alva's Market.

New business included discussion of the deadline for picking up the fall display on the square. The group determined that the end of October would be appropriate. The group's annual Thanksgiving meeting was also discussed, with Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. chosen as the date and time. Members present chose items to bring for the dinner.

Cunningham gave the lesson on "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up." She reported that the method encourages one to keep only those things that spark joy. The November leader's lesson on "Active Listening for Effective Communication" will be Oct. 22 at 1:30 p..m. at the county office. Grow and Share has already presented this lesson, so it will not be given in November.

Two mini-lessons were presented. Mary Hamilton presented information on the EMS proposition 522 that will be on the November ballot. Misty Hoover led a demonstration on making pumpkins out of cloth and rolls of toilet paper. Each member created her own pumpkin.

Refreshments were served and Secret Sister gifts were exchanged. The meeting adjourned to the November regular meeting to be held at Cunningham's home on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Cunningham and Mary Hamilton will co-hostess.
