Back in my school days, I paid very little attention to sports. My parents weren’t interested and didn’t attend games. My older brother liked basketball, but the fast pace caused him some breathing difficulties. He settled for photographing the games for our newspaper instead.

I knew a little about baseball and softball because the kids in our neighborhood sometimes played in a vacant lot with rocks or whatever came to hand as bases. Unfortunately, I demonstrated a complete lack of physical ability for sports. When teams were being chosen, I was always one of last to get the nod.
