OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The number of reported coronavirus cases in Oklahoma surpassed 150,000 on Saturday and the number of deaths due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, now tops 1,500, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
There were a reported 150,205 total cases and 1,516 since the pandemic began in March, increases of 2,847 cases and 23 additional deaths from Friday, the health department reported.
The department reported 1,247 people hospitalized, down from a record 1,279 on Friday, 25,356 active cases and that 123,333 people have recovered from the illness. The true number of infections in the state is likely higher because many people haven't been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.
The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Oklahoma has risen from 1,091 to 2,229.6.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and a cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
