Small earthquake near Waynoka Wednesday

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred in the early evening on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7:01 p.m. local time near Waynoka, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 1.1 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
