Duesenberg Motor Company, founded in 1913 by brothers August and Fredrick Duesenberg, built racing and luxury cars. The brothers were self-taught engineers who built many experimental cars, race cars and production models, all made by hand.
Duesenbergs won the Indianapolis 500 four times between 1922 and 1927 and, in spite of their mechanical prowess, the brothers were not good businessmen. History spares that fact and dwells instead on the success of the cars themselves.
They featured hydraulic brakes, invented by Fred in cooperation with Lockheed in 1914, and would have led to a fortune...
