As everyone knows, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. But the baby in the manger is not really the most important thing for us to consider. The more important question is, why did Jesus need to come into the world at all? It was not to bring laws, or a teaching, or a moral code – the nation of Israel already had those. It was not to demonstrate an exemplary life – any honest person must admit that ordinary human beings are incapable of measuring up to such a standard of divine perfection.
