City of Alva belt-tightening is paying off

Dr. Bo Hannaford, chair of the city’s finance committee, told the Alva City Council Monday, Dec. 21, that efforts to improve the cash balance are paying off. At the end of November, the city had just under $1.2 million in pooled cash accounts and another $1,594,322 in investments. In February before the current city manager began, the city had a little over $200,000 in the cash accounts.
Sales and use tax collections are improving slightly with November’s report showing an increase of 3.4 percent from October and a 3.3 percent increase from the same month last year.
