New Year's games kick off Ranger basketball

The Northwestern Lady Rangers and Rangers will begin their delayed basketball season with home games this afternoon, Jan. 1, against Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The women play at 2 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, Northwestern will host games against two different opponents. The Lady Rangers will take on Tabor College at 2 p.m. with the Ranger men set to play Randall University at 4 p.m.

According to Great American Conference return to play protocols, no audience members will be allowed during the first two weeks of the January basketball season. Those rules will be reconsidered for games starting Jan. 16 when the GAC will consider allowing up to 25 percent of venue capacity to attend games.

Alva High School basketball will resume Tuesday, Jan. 5, when the Ladybugs and Goldbugs host Blackwell starting at 6:30 p.m.

Alva is scheduled to play in the Wheat Capital Tournament at Chisholm Jan. 7-9. The Ladybugs will take on Garber at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, while the Goldbugs will face Chisholm at 2 p.m.

Also on Thursday, Jan. 7, Northwestern basketball teams will host Southern Nazarene University at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Northwestern will host Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, at 2 and 4 p.m.
