Oklahoma cases of Covid continue to rise

• Vaccination sites set up across the state

Oklahoma Covid-19 numbers have increased to 34,004 according to the Tuesday, Jan. 5, report from the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH).

Woods County has the highest number of current active cases in the Newsgram coverage area and surrounding counties. Woods County has had 1036 positive cases, five deaths and 866 recovered for a total of 165 active cases as of Tuesday. Alfalfa County has had 960 cases with four deaths and 889 recovered for a total of 67 active cases of Covid.

In the surrounding area, Woodward County has 123 active cases, Major County has 52, Grant County has 44 and Harper County only 15.

In Woods County, Alva has the highest number of active cases with 113, a decrease of 18 from a week ago. Waynoka follows with 33. Dacoma has eight and Freedom four. Bill Johnson Correctional Center in Alva has no active cases among inmates.

In Alfalfa County, Cherokee has the largest number of active cases with 32 followed by Helena with 20. Carmen and Jet each have four. Aline and Goltry have three each, and Burlington has one. James Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena has ten active cases among inmates according to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website.

Vaccination Sites

Covid-19 vaccinations are now being offered around the state in phase 2, which includes those ages 65 and over.

Woods County residents age 65 and over may schedule vaccinations in Alva by calling the county health department at 580-327-3192. Upcoming dates are Tuesday, Jan. 12; Monday, Jan. 18; Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Garfield County Health Department at 580-233-0650 is offering vaccinations in Enid on Mondays for residents of that district, which includes Alfalfa County. In Cherokee, vaccinations may be scheduled by calling Great Salt Plains Health Care.
