Two baby Binders come six weeks early

January 6, 2021

It was an extra-special early Christmas present (well, actually two presents) for Justin and Taylor Binder of Kiowa, Kansas. They were blessed on Dec. 22 with twins who weren't supposed to arrive for six more weeks.

When Taylor told Justin that “something doesn't feel right” and he should come to the house, Justin said the first-time parents decided they ought to be proactive and head to Wichita where they were to deliver their babies at Wesley Hospital.

“Ten hours later the twins came along,” Justin said. He said his wife got along great delivering their son and daughter. “She was a rock star.” Justin admitted he was braced and ready for Taylor to yell at him at one point like you always hear wives do when they are in labor. “She never did,” he said thankfully.

Their son Wade Daniel weighed 4 pounds 7 ounces. His sister Charli Jo outweighed him just slightly at 4 pounds 10 ounces.

Justin said they were thankful the twins had no real complications since they were premature – just a few breathing and eating issues that were resolved. Charli Jo and Wade Daniel are trying to get bigger and stronger every day. They've about met the criteria to go home. Justin said their daughter has outperformed her brother. She's up to over 5 pounds 4 ounces. Wade reached 5 pounds Tuesday.

“One thing we've already learned – They are driving the bus, we're just along for the ride!” Justin said.

Of course, having babies born during the Covid pandemic has been a challenge. Only Justin and Taylor can go in and be with their children besides medical personnel. Justin said, “Our parents (the grandparents) are beating down the door!”

Taylor stays at the hospital with their babies and Justin is there part of the time and in Kiowa at his job as a VP loan officer at the First State Bank, which is part of Alva State Bank. Some friends set up a Binder Baby Love Fund for them at the bank.

However, Justin said while they are so appreciative for the gesture, “We are thankful to have good jobs and good health insurance.” Taylor is the radiology director at the Kiowa District Hospital. Justin said Taylor is doing well. He said the entire experience has been “eye-opening in a good way.” The couple just can't wait to bring their best Christmas presents ever home soon.
