Lady Rangers fall late against Oklahoma Baptist

ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Rangers fell short against the Bison 56-66 on Thursday night inside Percefull Fieldhouse.
The Red and Black ended the match up with three players in double scoring figures.
Bailey Brown finished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. She completed 7-of-15 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Brown also recorded three assists and a steal.
Scout Frame scored 12 points and snagged five rebounds. She stole the ball from the Bison four times and finished a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Anna Motycka, a freshman from Burlington, posted 11 points and one steal. She finished shooting 4-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from deep.
Northwestern moves to 4-8 overall and 2-8 in GAC play.
The Bison went up on the Lady Rangers by eight points to begin the first period with scores from Charissa Price, Savanna Malou and Andreja Peciuraite. Mya Johnson put in our first two points after stepping to the free-throw line and draining both shots. Brown, Josena Frame and Johnson rolled in scores from underneath the basket, but Oklahoma Baptist was able to hold a 16-10 lead over Northwestern to finish the first 10 minutes of play. (16-10, OBU)
Brown fired first on the scoreboard to start the second quarter, followed by a deep three pointer from J. Frame. S. Frame rattled in two free throws to secure the Lady Rangers first lead of the evening. Jaylin Stapleton scored a layup for the Bison and S. Frame answered back with a pull-up jumper. Kaylee Hurst stole the ball from Hayley Stiger and tossed it to Kalifa Ford who scored from underneath to snag a three-point Bison lead. Johnson scored in the paint for Northwestern, followed by two perfect free throws from S. Frame but even after an outside score from Kes Reeves, the Red-and-Black trailed by three at halftime. Brown scored a layup to open the second half, but the Bison quickly went by six on Northwestern until three pointers from Lizzie Shephard and Motycka kept the Lady Rangers alive with under four minutes left in the third quarter. Motycka hit back-to-back deep scores and stole the ball to assist Brown down under. Moments later, Jarah Whitfield stole the ball with two minutes left and tossed it to Motycka who rolled in another score to go up four on OBU. Hurst splashed a three pointer to cloud the Lady Rangers momentum and the Bison held onto a one-point lead to finish the third period. (44-43, OBU)
Motycka fired again from three-point range, followed by a quick pull up score from S. Frame. The Lady Rangers didn't score again until the 4:30 mark after Brown scored two points from the free-throw line. S. Frame also hit two free-throws as well as a layup that was assisted by her sister J. Frame. Brown scored the final points of the night for Northwestern, but unfortunately the Red-and-Black fell short to the Bison 56-66.
The Bison improve to 2-10 overall and 1-9 in Great American Conference play.
Stapleton led Oklahoma Baptist with 20 points, four steals, five assists and six rebounds. She shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Peciuraite finished with 12 points off of 5-for-11 shooting and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
Ford stole the ball from the Red-and-Black twice, scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She also recorded a block and an assist.
The Lady Rangers were back in action at Percefull Fieldhouse on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene.
