South Barber's Storm Shelter/Daycare just about finished

Building supposed to withstand 250 mile/hour winds

South Barber Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller stands inside the storm shelter that was just built directly to the east of the elementary school along Main Street in Kiowa with a FEMA 75/25 matching grant. Soon the inside will be much more colorful and busy as a daycare.

With such a great need for daycare in the Kiowa, Kansas, community, it's encouraging for parents of young children to know that the new facility South Barber USD 255 has is nearing completion.

The storm shelter/multi-purpose room is being transformed into a daycare that can house 12 children based on a formula of ages. Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller told the school board members at their meeting Monday night that the biggest holdup has been the fire marshal. Finally, the fire marshal has committed to give his approval Feb. 19.
