Rangers conclude season opener in Natural State Classic

 


CABOT, Ark. – The Northwestern men's golf team opened their season at the Greystone Country Club for the Natural State Classic hosted by Harding University.

"The conditions were rough, and the course was playing long," said Head Coach Nikkole Donk. "I'm just happy the guys pushed through."

The Rangers carded a 326 as a team after the first round on Monday, which left them in 15th place. Northwestern was able to stay ahead of Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist after the opening day.

Concluding the second round the Red and Black finished in front of Lincoln University and Newman after shooting 340 as a team.

On Monday, Junior Luke Cooley led the way for NWOSU with an 80 in his opening 18-holes. He finished with a birdie on hole 15. This afternoon, Cooley birdied holes 14 and 16 to record another +8 round (80-80 – 160).

Tyler Berryhill, the Maypearl, Texas native was able to keep his score even after the first six holes. Berryhill turned in an 84 after the opening round, and a 79 after the second round. During Berryhill's final 18-holes he recorded three birdies on holes seven, eight and 13. (84-79 – 163)

Cade Seymour, a freshman tallied four birdies and 84-86 –170

Tanner Griffith posted an 81-95 – 176, along with two birdies.

Ben Baker carded an 81-98 – 179 and birdied hole 13.

Arkansas Tech was able the land the victory after shooting par (288) on both days. (288-288 – 576)

Josh McNulty of Henderson State finished first on the leaderboard after shooting 5-under-par, carding a 73-67 – 140).
