Rangers conclude Hillcat Classic on Tuesday

OWASSO, Okla. – The Northwestern men's golf team finished up the Hillcat Classic on Tuesday at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club hosted by Rogers State University. The Rangers recorded an eighth-place finish in Owasso.

"There were strong wind conditions the first day, which made the course a lot more difficult to play but we were able to overcome it and move up a spot the next day," Head Coach Nikkole Donk explained.

The Red and Black posted a 334-312-313 – 959 team score after three rounds.

Keenan Hofstad led Northwestern after he finished the tournament tied for seventh place. Hofstad posted an even-with-par second round and shot 2-under-par during his final round in Owasso. He carded 12 birdies throughout three rounds and turned in a final score of 82-72-70 – 224.

Luke Cooley carded an 85 after his first round and improved the second round by 11 shots after turning in a score of 74. The next day, he recorded an 82 to finish the contest scoring 241 after three rounds. Cooley earned three birdies throughout the tournament and eagled hole 1.


Ben Baker recorded three birdies and carded a three round 80-81-85 – 246

Juan Gui Angarita competed for the first time this season and finished the first-round shooting 88. He improved the second day after turning in an 85 after round 2, and an 80 after round 3. Angarita tallied two birdies and an overall score of 253.

Also traveling for the first time this year was Zac Caldwell, who rounded out the scoring for the Red and Black after carding three birdies and a three-round total of 87-91-81 – 259.


Tanner Griffith made his first debut of the season and competed as an individual for the Rangers. Griffith birdied three holes and posted an 88-87-83 – 258.

University of Sioux Falls snagged the victory in Owasso after recording a three round team total of 889.

Connor Williamson of Missouri Southern, claimed first place after finishing shooting 72-73-71 – 216.

UP NEXT: Northwestern will be back in action on March 22-23 for the Washburn Invite at the Topeka Country Club in Topeka, Kansas.
