Rangers defeat the Crimson Storm in four sets

BETHANY, Okla. – Northwestern Volleyball pulled out a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-21) win after a defensive thriller at Southern Nazarene University against the Crimson Storm.
"We definitely had some ups and downs throughout this match," said Kate Deterding, a senior outside hitter from Lindsborg, Kansas. "We were able to get the job done and pull it together as a team when it mattered the most."
"I'm so thankful to play and be pushed by amazing girls and coaches, we couldn't be more ready for Southeastern this weekend," Deterding added.
Deterding led the successful night in Bethany after recording a double-double of 15 kills and just as many digs. She hit .196, the best of the team, with a 15-6-46 clip. Deterding also scored 16 points, one assist and two blocks.
Kaydee Honeycutt finished with seven blocks, six digs, 18.5 points and 12 kills. She hit 12-6-43 and posted a .140 attack percentage. Honeycutt tallied two service aces along with an assist.
Tarra Parks scored nine kills, 16 digs, three blocks, two service aces and an assist.
Ravyn Burns blocked five SNU balls and tallied five kills.
Sydnee Miller earned two assists and 21 digs. Miller led defensively for the Red-and-Black.
Avery Osburg assisted the Rangers 35 times, scored two blocks and dug the ball 10 times.
Maggie Peterson recorded nine digs and one service ace.
Madison Dehlinger finished with two kills, one assist, two blocks and a dig.
Courtney Russell chipped in a block, an assist, two digs and a kill.
SET 1: (25-21, SNU)
The Crimson Storm defeated the Rangers in the first set after successfully scoring nine straight off of their best hitting clip of the matchup, 14-5-32. SNU recorded a .281 attack percentage and tallied five kills from Sunny Batschelett. Northwestern finished hitting .172 off of a 11-6-29 clip. Burns, Honeycutt and Parks all recorded three kills apiece.
SET 2: (26-24, NW)
The Red-and-Black were able to snag their first set victory of the night after defeating Southern Nazarene 26-24. Northwestern hit .088 off of a 11-6-57 clip. The Crimson Storm gave up 12 errors in the second set, their most of the night. Deterding led the Rangers during the set with four kills and Honeycutt added three. Meagan Ellis led SNU with eight kills, her team posted a .055 hitting percentage off of a 15-12-55 clip.
SET 3: (25-20, NW)
Northwestern Volleyball won back-to-back sets after they outscored the Crimson Storm by five to end the third set. The Rangers earned their best attack percentage of the contest after posting a .205 off of a 13-5-39 clip. Deterding recorded seven kills while Honeycutt and Parks chipped in three apiece. Southern Nazarene came up short after only hitting 0.1% with a 12-8-40 clip.
SET 4: (25-21, NW)
The Rangers were able to improve to 7-4 on the season and 4-4 in the Great American Conference after defeating the Crimson Storm 3-1 in the Sawyer Center. Both teams posted nine errors each in the fourth set, but the Red-and-Black were able to pull out the 25-21 victory after hitting 10-9-42 in their final set. Deterding and Honeycutt scored three kills each, Parks posted two, and Russell and Burns chipped in one apiece. SNU finished the set hitting .064 off of a 12-9-47 clip. The Crimson Storm fall to 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the GAC.
Up Next
The Red and Black will host Southeastern Oklahoma State on March 27 for Senior Day. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
