Let's read the Bible
Week 13
April 2, 2021
So far, we have read most of the Law of Moses in the Old Testament. This week we will read the Books of Romans and Galatians. The apostle Paul wrote both of these books. These were written to Christians, most of whom would have been raised under Jewish law and traditions.
The early church was constantly dealing with those who thought it necessary for people to become Jews before they could become Christians, and those who were tempted to return to the old law.
Romans and Galatians were written primarily to establish that Jesus Christ was superior to the Law of Moses. This was important so people could withstand the pressure to go back. The old law wasn’t just their religion, it was the basis for their entire culture. It included their entire history. Imagine how hard it would be to accept change in every part of your life.
Christians today do not have all that baggage to overcome, but there are nuggets of wisdom for us today in these books. Romans 12 is full of advice for how we should live today. Galatians 5 contains the Fruits of the Spirit, the attributes we should have. Paul’s letters were always for encouragement, no matter the struggles people had to face. Read the Bible this week and be encouraged.
