Covid-19 ranks third in causes of death in 2020

When the CDC released preliminary figures on the causes of deaths in the U.S. during 2020, Covid-19 hit the No. 3 spot.
Covid-19 bumped "unintentional injuries" down the list, which also includes chronic respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, kidney disease, influenza and suicide. Heart disease and cancer remain the top two causes of death in the U.S. according to the CDC.
