When Cara Smith started with the U.S Postal Service as a mail carrier she walked about nine miles per day. Now 30 years later she is about to retire as a 17-year postmaster of the Kiowa, Kansas Post Office. Starting in January 1991, Smith recalls the price of a postage stamp was about 27 cents and now in 2021 is 55 cents.

After carrying mail five years, Smith became a familiar face to the community as the clerk who greeted post office customers at the front counter for 12 years.
