When the batboy batted, part 1

With a new baseball season underway, it is perhaps time for a little story about that sport from bygone days. There are at least a million from which to choose!

An interesting tale unfolded in 1952 that will fill the bill for us for now. It is about a game in which the manager of a minor league professional baseball team decided to let the batboy play.

The team was the Fitzgerald Pioneers of the Class-D Georgia State League. The team’s manager was a former major league pitcher named Ace Adams. But, for whatever reason, Adams did not accompany the team when it went out of town on road trips.
