Will the Alva Municipal Swimming Pool open again? The public is invited to attend town hall meetings this weekend at the Alva Pool. The detailed engineering report is back for public review. Paul Barton, chair of the Swimming Pool Task Force, said the meetings will lead off with a report of the engineer's findings. Then the task force will explain their recommendations for the pool. Following the task force presentation, those attending will have the opportunity to look at the pool to see the problem areas discussed

The pool was shut down by the state health department near the end of the summer season in 2018 after it failed an inspection. In 2019, the city took care of some of the health department issues and obtained permission to reopen for that summer only. That fall, the city's proposal to fund the pool renovation and replacement through an ad valorem tax failed at the ballot box.

The task force has been gathering information and is now ready to recommend how the city should proceed.

The meetings began Thursday night and will continue at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday. An afternoon session has also been scheduled at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
