Patchwork Friends OHCE group hold regular meeting

The Patchwork Friends OHCE group met for their regular meeting on April 8 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Parlor. President Mary Barker called the meeting to order. Janice Litton led the group in the flag salute. Devotions were given by Joanne Prewett from Matthew 7-14 in "Devotions for Women." The roll call question was "What is your avorite plant?" Those answering were Aleta Nolan, Dottie Gatz, Mary Barker, Joanne Prewett, Maureen Thomas, Janice Litton, Doris White, and Dr. Liz Kinzie. Minutes were read by the secretary and approved. The treasurers' report was given.

Patchwork Friends will be docents at the Cherokee Strip Museum in April and all members will participate. There was discussion about OHCE Week, which is the first week of May. The group plans to buy flowers for the Northwest Family Services flowerpots and members will be watering them this summer.

Spring Council will be held May 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a salad supper. Dottie Gatz and Barbara Cue will provide the salads.

The leader lesson was given by Mary Barker on “Fabulous Health Benefits of House Plants.” Plants have many health benefits including improving the oxygen level in your home, reducing carbon dioxide, headaches, etc. and they are natural humidifiers.

A mini lesson was given on the benefits of banana leaves. Dottie Gatz and Maureen Thomas stated if you put them around tomato plants they help them grow. Another great benefit is to chop them up and use as a face mask.

There being no other business, the meeting adjourned. Hostess Dottie Gatz served the group dessert.
