Sagelyn Budy, a senior at Waynoka High School, paged for Rep. Carl Newton, R-Cherokee, May 10-13 at the state Capitol.

House pages run messages to legislators while they are in the chamber debating policy and voting on measures, and they help in their Capitol offices. Pages also participate in a mock session, in which they learn legislative procedure and how to write legislation.

Sagelyn is the daughter of Danielle and Chad Budy.

After high school, she plans to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University and major in agriculture communications.

Her hobbies include water and snow skiing and driving a combine during wheat harvest. Extra-curricular activities include FFA, FCCLA, Student Council, 4-H, basketball, fast- and slow-pitch softball and cheer.

Personal honors and achievements include receiving an FFA state degree, placing first in the state reporter book, in a P.I. speech contest as well as in the Star Event Contest. Sagelynn also is valedictorian, a member of the National Honor Society, on the superintendent's Honor Roll and in the NWOSU President's Leadership Class. She is Miss Waynoka and MVP of her basketball and fast- and slow-pitch softball teams.

Of all of these honors, Sagelyn said her proudest accomplishment was being named valedictorian of her class.

"Sagelyn is such a brilliant young woman with a very bright future ahead of her," Newton said. "I'm thankful she took the time to come and serve as a page at the Capitol and learn a more about her state government."
