REID A. HOLLAND

Reid A. Holland returned home to the Lord on May 25, 2021, after a valiant battle with leukemia. Holland was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and lived most of his childhood in Alva, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Alva High School and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He also earned his Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in history from Oklahoma State University.
He has been married to his loving guardian angel, Dr. Venus Holland, since 1974. Holland served higher education institutions in several states before settling in South Carolina where he was Instructor, History Program Coordinator, and Academic Vice President at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina. During his tenure he authored or co-authored successful college textbooks and over forty scholarly articles. He was a frequent member of Accreditation Reaffirmation teams for the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges. He was named Faculty Member of the Year; and recognized as one of the top five South Carolina Professors of the Year.
The Hollands retired to Bluffton, South Carolina. In 2016, the Alumni Association of Northwestern Oklahoma State University named him Humanitarian of the Year.
Dr Holland is predeceased by his mother; Marguerite, and his father, Carroll Holland. He is survived by his wife Venus of Bluffton, South Carolina.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church located at 10 Simmonsville Rd. Bluffton, SC 29910. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lowcountry Presbyterian Church.
