A minor episode from the past, part 5

 


Getting a New Mexico driver’s license was turning out to be harder than I ever imagined. And it was all my fault for letting my Tennessee license expire.

So, now I had to complete a driving exam but – because my car had a headlight burned out-- I could not do that until I replaced the defective bulb.

Things got worse quickly! I learned that the department of motor vehicles (DMV) testing site would close at noon. That meant that I didn’t have time to fix the car until another day.

But, I decided, if I could leave my car in the DMV parking lot, I could walk (or hitchhike) to buy a replacement he...
