Hoe, hoe, hoe

 


Resting in the corner of our guest house is an old hoe that my mother used for over 50 years. I guess she didn’t do much leaning on it as it has the original worn and weathered handle. Its blade, narrowed from repeated sharpening, is a reminder of days long past.

Today’s horticulture relies more on chemical application than physical labor, so hoeing is becoming a lost art. There is a mini-tiller called an Earthquake, but hoeing is a safe, easy and affordable way to control weeds. There are several variations of the classic hoe available with trade names like Weed Popper, Garden Weasel and Wale...
