The stars chart a path for Ralstin

Aaron Ralstin is star-struck! Not by Hollywood stars but by the myriad stars in the sky.

After receiving his first camera around 2015 or 2016, he used it on one trip and then left it in his closet. It wasn't until some friends came to visit that this Tulsa-based photographer found his passion.

"They actually took photos of the stars. That changed my whole world," he said. "I wanted to know how, and I was super excited on how to do it. I asked my friend what kind of equipment I'd need. Since then I've purchased equipment, and I've been shooting ever since."

Ralstin hasn't had any formal training. "I am self-taught. I haven't really done anything except YouTube videos, and I've read a few e-books. Other than that, I haven't had any schooling. I guess I have some natural eye there which is pretty cool to see," he said. That "natural eye" is evident when you look at his prints on display during July at Graceful Arts Gallery in Alva.

From focusing on the stars, Ralstin began venturing into the outdoor world in general. "That's kind of my passion. The stars are outside. I love the outside world – wildlife, landscape, astrophotography is pretty much my skill set, my passion," he said.

"But just to keep my creativity flowing, I started doing things such as senior photos, portraits. I've helped with a few weddings. But the real passion still drives for the outdoors."

"I'd love to reach out and meet with anyone that has questions about photography, is interested in photography or just wants to go on an adventure with me," said Ralstin. "So let's go on an adventure together!"
