Fun, fun, fun in northwest Oklahoma the 3rd, 4th and 5th

I didn't go to the park, but from the sounds I could hear everyone was having a great time. Thanks to all that made these celebrations possible.

Cleo and I stayed in for the 4th of July celebrations, but the kids went to Hardtner, Alva, and Carmen fireworks and enjoyed them all. Justin, friend Michelle, and other helpers had a crawfish boil in Cleo's front yard Saturday night. I don't eat crawfish because it's a lot of work for little food, and when I look into its face it looks a little like a girl I met once. There were potatoes, sausage, corn on the cob, and several other goodies. It was like going to South Texas and never leaving the house.

I have a joke, not meant to offend anyone, but pretty funny when taken as what it is, not seriously. I know God has a sense of humor. Have you ever seen a platypus duckbill?

Anyhow, how it goes is we all know Eve sold us out in the Garden of Eden for an apple. I wonder what she would have done for a Klondike Bar? Most people laugh, and a few have mentioned there was no way to have kept the bar frozen back then. What does worry me is too many times when I tell it to a young person (14 and up), they don't know about the Garden of Eden, the apple, or Eve. The same thing happens sometimes when I sing "and a partridge in a pear tree." I don't know about other "old" people, but I couldn't tell you how little I was when I knew these things. On the other hand, young people today probably know lots of facts that I wouldn't know or care to know.

I probably watch too much television, but it is mindless entertainment after a full day of work and confusion. It amazes me that the majority of the shows on as reruns that are not loaded with sex, nudity, and cursing are shows that are 30 to 50 years old. It is sad that there are so many modern shows showing loose morals, promiscuity and unrealistic expectations. It is even worse to me that these shows have such an appeal to younger audiences that we gain a new show every little bit. When a 15-year-old watches a show where a guy picks a girl out of several, or vice versa, then heads right to the bedroom to have a test drive, how can they not know that this is paid fantasy, not real life? Old and out of touch with reality, am I? I think not.

Whenever morals, manners, good sense, and common sense are going so far by the wayside, our country needs to have a reality check. Many will tell us that the decline in the values of our younger generations is because of the decline in church attendance by the younger generations. How can the Bible's lessons on morals and proper ways to live be taught when the elders don't enforce “no tolerance” choices such as attending church and making their kids responsible for their actions?

I recently confronted a young man about something he stole from the salvage, then lied to me about it. I got my ducks in a row and went to see him and his stepdad about this. I wasn't worried so much about the value, as I wanted to nip the thievery and lying about it in the bud.

Over my salvage life I have caught many window breakers, fire bugs, and thieves. In the old days the parents made the kids own up to their crime and take responsibility. The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree sometimes, however. The stepfather of the young thief and liar was caught in a happening with some other boys at the salvage once years ago. Instead of chastising her son, her mother chewed me out for picking on him.

Lesson learned because when I asked him what he was going to do about this kid, he chewed me out and I thought for an instant I was going to have to fight my way out. Parenting at its finest, and a lot of what is spiraling our country into the dark ages again.

Thank you for your time. Let's all be safe out there, and God bless.
