Grow and Share OHCE met for its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 29 at the home of Janet Cunningham. Carol McDaniel served as hostess. President Cunningham called the meeting to order. All present recited the flag salute. McDaniel gave a devotional from Psalm 90:1-2. Eight members present answered roll call to “What are your summer vacation plans?” Minutes for the May meeting were read. Jean Moore moved that the minutes be approved as read. Motion passed. Jean gave the treasurers report stating a balance of $597.15.
There were no communications that were received in June.
For the Cultural Enrichment Committee, Janet encouraged members to write their Covid-19 stories. The group discussed what the committee could do at the Nescatunga Arts Festival to be held in November.
Unfinished business included discussion of a canning workshop to be held in July. Amy has secured the Lutheran Church kitchen for the workshop to be held July 12 at 6:30 p.m. Members also discussed fair items for the 2021 Woods County Fair. A new list will be created.
Under new business, Janet reported that she was notified that the Woods County Resource Management Committee report (handled by Grow and Share) has been awarded second place in the state. The award will be given at the state convention. McDaniel will be attending the state meeting. She will be competing for the State Member of the Year award as a district award winner. Hamilton moved that the group pay $75 towards the registration fee for McDaniel. Cunningham reported that a grant for $2,500 for Woods County OHCE for projects had been received. The grant will enable the county to purchase dolls similar to Baby Think it Overs for use at the high schools in Woods County.
Members were reminded of a workshop on foil pack meals-sheet pan dinners-dump cake magic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Major County Fairgrounds in Fairview.
Cunningham gave the lesson on vaccinations and immunizations. She covered common myths about vaccines and the group discussed the current Covid-19 vaccine. She also gave an informative mini lesson on “You Be the Judge,” that referenced the various standards in judging fair exhibits. Secret pal gifts were exchanged. Jean won the hostess gift. Carol served refreshments to the group.
The meeting adjourned to the July regular meeting to be held on July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church.
