Art in wood, paint and photos featured tonight
• Alva First Friday Art Walk
August 6, 2021
"Artists Now and Then" is the theme of the August exhibit at Graceful Arts Gallery in Alva. During tonight's First Friday Art Walk, visitors to the gallery will see beautiful wood-turned bowls and wood carvings, paintings and photography.
Longtime Alva residents Jerry Brownrigg and Lynn Martin are the "Then" portion of the exhibit. Brownrigg is known for his beautiful wooden bowls, and two of his students will be exhibiting their work as well. James Bowen of Alva and Mike Wagar of Nash are exhibiting bowls and other wooden art, both useful and beautiful.
The late Lynn Martin photographed many people in the area during all kinds of events. This exhibit features a variety of his work including Lauren Heaton as Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, the Jerry and Joyce Egner family, a couple of portraits of his daughter, an aerial, and others. An album holds a sample of wedding photos.
Oklahoma artist Trace Logan is part of the "Now" exhibit, incorporating people into boldly colored paintings. He is also showing a selection of mixed media works.
Where Logan works on large canvases, Gayla Hollis leans toward the small and delicate in her paintings.
The public is invited to view the exhibit, enjoy refreshments and visit with neighbors during the First Friday Art Walk from 6 to 8 p.m.
Just down the street to the east is An Old Man's Gallery featuring art and photos by Warren Little for your added enjoyment. It's located right next to the Bell Hotel.
