After 80 years, family welcoming sailor home to Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Paul E. Saylor left Johnson City in 1940.

Nearly 81 years later, he is returning home.

In 1940 he was a brand-new sailor in the United States Navy and had just completed boot camp in Norfolk, Virginia. He stopped in Johnson City to visit with his parents, friends and family while he was en route to California to join the ship he had been assigned to, the USS Oklahoma.
