Vice presidential vacancies, part 5

As we saw last week, the Founding Fathers of the United States created the executive branch of the U.S. government when the Constitution went into effect in 1789.

The executive branch was to be headed up by the president of the United States, of course, with a vice president who would presumably help the president carry out the duties of his office.

The Constitution also created the U.S. Senate with two members representing each state. Consequently, when the Senate is at full strength with no vacancies, it has an even number of members – and tie votes are always possible.
