Week 34 Proverbs

August 27, 2021

Solomon is known as the wisest man who has ever lived. The book of Proverbs is about his wisdom. The first few chapters are about wisdom, knowledge and understanding. A person can have knowledge about specific things and still lack wisdom or understanding. A person can have knowledge and understanding and still lack wisdom. All three are to be sought after.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Solomon makes connections between wisdom and righteousness. He draws a contrast between the wise and the fool, the wise and the evil. Proverbs is full of couplets comparing good and evil, wise and foolish.

Proverbs is written as a man teaching his son about how to live righteously, to be pleasing to God and also to live well with his fellow man. His proverbs are still true today. People still have the same faults and follies that Solomon saw.

The last chapter of Proverbs describes the virtuous woman, which also still applies today, Solomon was truly a wise man, he prayed for wisdom and God granted it to him. Wisdom, knowledge, understanding and righteousness are a mighty combination of traits that God can use and will bless. We should all pray for these things.
