Woods County Fair starts Thursday

Woods County residents will show off their skills this week during the county fair Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 9-11. Located on the south side of Alva on Harper Road, the fairgrounds will host a number of exhibits and judged events.
The Women's Building and Poultry Building will be open starting at 8 a.m. Thursday for people to check in with their entries. Judging of exhibits in those two buildings will be held on Thursday beginning with OHCE entries in the morning. Floral exhibits and poultry will be judged in the afternoon.
Livestock to be judged is to be in place by 5 p.m. Thursday with judging of FFA Agricultural Mechanics and 4-H and FFA judging to take place that evening.
There will be more judging on Friday for swine, bucket calves, beef cattle, sheep and goats. Open class homemaking exhibits, 4-H exhibits and agriculture open class will also be judged Friday.
The Merchant's Building with exhibits by businesses and organizations will be open Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday the Merchant's Building will open at 8 a.m. and close at noon. Visitors can stop by booths to enter contests and drawings, pick up information and get some free stuff. Fun for the kids will be available at the fairgrounds from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
Special events include the Death by Chocolate competition in the Women's Building at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the Chili Cook-Off at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Women's Building.
Friday's Horse Show at 6 p.m. will feature indoor events. The Horse Show on Saturday begins at 8:15 a.m. with speed events in the outdoor arena. The Livestock Judging Contest will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the indoor arena.
