Rangers have two Top 10 finishers in Kibet and Kimutai on Friday

LAWTON, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State Men's Cross Country team was back on the road Saturday afternoon for a morning meet at Cameron University, running in the 8,000-meter race. This was a part of the Aggie Duels/Conference Preview meet.

The Rangers finished the afternoon placing third in the competition out of six teams, only behind Oklahoma Christian and Cameron. Science & Arts, Southern Nazarene and Redlands CC rounded out the results.

"Felt the men were ready for a breakthrough and obviously they took the challenge well to excel and we are very proud of them and are ready to make another step forward in our next meet," stated head coach Jill Lancaster

Northwestern had a runner who placed in the Top 5 in Victor Kibet, who ran a 25:38.95 for the Rangers' first finisher of the morning. Kibet's time set a new school record, placing him as the fastest time in Northwestern history, passing Garrison Blanton's record set back in October of 2019.

The Rangers had ten runners qualify in the race who placed in the top 51.

The Red-and-Black finished with two in the Top 10 after Kibet the Rangers had Ian Kimutai finish the race at 25:44.18 to place seventh overall in the Friday race. That time finish gives Kimutai third in the Rangers history.

Following Kimutai, the next Ranger finished at 16th: Zachary Cox, a freshman, running at 26:52.00 as he crossed the finish line. Cox now sits fourth in the fastest time for Northwestern, finishing the race after his 26-minute mark.

The following two Rangers finished 28th and 29th back-to-back: Cole Beets and Draven Hidalgo, racing at 28:28.73 and 28:40.27 respectively.

Ray Chavira and Victor Cruz were the next two Red-and-Black runners to cross the line at the 29:48.28 mark followed by 29:49.45.

The Rangers then had three of the next five runners – Nick Castillo, Cooper Frymire and Morgan Cook – helping the Rangers to the Top 5 finish on the men's side. These runners ran a 29:52.79, 30:36.40, and 31:27.30, respectively, overall.

Overall results were:

Oklahoma Christian – 40 points

Cameron – 51 points

Northwestern – 77 points

Science & Arts – 83 points

Southern Nazarene – 106 points

Redlands CC – 163 points.
