Men's golf concludes first tournament of the fall

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State men's golf team opened their 2021 fall season at the Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City for the GAC Preview on Sept. 13-14th. During the opening tournament the Rangers brought two teams to the GAC Preview to compete.

"First tournament out of the gate for the men, and there are several positives. Everyone got a chance to see how they would perform in a tournament setting, we put a couple sub-300 round scores on the board, plus we had a personal low round. The NSU Men's Classic brings another challenge next week, and we're excited to see what these guys can do!" stated Director of Golf Tim Lauderdale

The Rangers red team would card a team total of 901 over the three rounds. While the Rangers' black team carded a team score of 949 for the tournament.

Freshman Logan Johnson led the Rangers red team. Johnson carded a 73-74-74 for a total of 221 over the three rounds while recording 15 birdies between the two days. He would finish tied for 17th in the tournament preview.


Keenan Hofstad would finish next for the Rangers, carding a 75-69-75 for a total of 222. Hofstad would drop nine birdies throughout his three rounds.

Cade Seymour finished these three rounds, recording an 80-76-72 - 228 while tallying eight birdies along the way.

Rounding out the red team would be Tanner Griffith and Juan Gui Angarita. Griffith would card a 76-80-75 - 231. Angarita carded 84-81-77 - 242.

"I have only been with the team a short amount of time. I'm very pleased with how our guys performed at the GAC Preview. I have confidence in every one of them that they can perform and execute game plans. I will take and build from these rounds to prepare them to play to the best of their abilities," said David Rogers, Northwestern golf coach.


Senior Luke Cooley would lead the Ranger black team. Cooley ended the three-rounds by carding a 79-70-76 tallying for a total of 225 with 11 birdies.

Joey Nix was the next up for the black team carding a 77-82-79 - 238. Nix would also drop five birdies over the two days.

The Ranger black team would finish with freshman Max Garza, sophomore Matthew Voth, and freshman TJ Kim. Garza would card a 77-79-83 - 239, with six birdies on his card over the two days. Voth would shoot an 81-82-86 - 249, tallying up three birdies over the three rounds. Kim would round out the team with an 89-86-84 - 259 and making one birdie in the three rounds.

Zac Caldwell would be the lone individual play for the Rangers would take to the tournament. Caldwell would card 82-77-87 - 246 while scoring three birdies over his three rounds.

Harding was able to land the victory after shooting six under par over their three rounds. Harding would card 289-285-284 for a total of 858 over the three rounds of play.

Next up for the Red-and-Black will be the 2021 NSU Men's Golf Classic in Muskogee, Oklahoma taking place at the Muskogee Golf Club. This will be hosted by Northeastern State University on Sept. 20-21.
