Let's read the Bible
October 8, 2021
Jeremiah was a prophet during the time of several of the kings mentioned in Kings and Chronicles. He lived during the reigns of Josiah, Jehoiakim and Zedekiah, and spoke the words of the Lord warning the people of tragedies to come if they did not return to worshiping the true God. We will read the first 29 chapters of Jeremiah this week.
Jeremiah tells them over and over that their idols of wood and stone were nothing, provided nothing for them and they had to be carried to be moved. He wrote this in contrast to the Creator, who made all things and existed everywhere. God often referred to Himself as the Lord of Hosts, some versions read Lord of Armies which is interesting because He used armies of nations to capture His people just as He said He would.
Among all these warnings of doom, there are words of comfort for us today. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” “I am with you to save you,” declares the Lord. “I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord, they will be My people, and I will be their God.”
These blessings were available to any who would return to God with their whole heart.
All of these things are true of us today, God knew us before we were born, He wants us to be saved, He gives His people a heart to know Him and serve Him with all our hearts. From the earliest of times to the present God wants His people to love him with all our heart, soul, and mind. And He will be our God, and be with us to save us.
