Garner scores two touchdowns in last Saturday's game against the Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Rangers football team traveled to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to play their fifth game of the season, this one against the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers used an early touchdown to build a solid first quarter leading to their win. Ouachita Baptist would win the Saturday game 64-17.

The Tigers improved to 4-1 on the season as the Rangers dropped to 0-5 on the year.

Quarterback Tanner Clarkson threw for 197 passing yards throughout the game. Clarkson finished the game 16-26 with two touchdowns. Damon Williams led the Rangers with 86 rushing yards, and Clarkson finished with the second most with 68 yards rushing. Gavin Garner was the Rangers' leading receiver with 107 yards scoring both the Rangers' touchdowns.

James Ellis led the Rangers with four solo tackles and five assisted tackles, totaling nine tackles for the game. Dax Benway had five solo tackles and one assist for six tackles in the afternoon.

The Tigers got on the board first with a touchdown in the first minute of the game during the first quarter on a 42-yard touchdown run. Ouachita answered back with their second touchdown on a Givens run to open a 13-0 lead. The Rangers got on the board with a field goal by Connor O'Neal, making the game 14-3. Shortly after, Ouachita answered back with a touchdown on a 93-yard kickoff return to lead the Rangers 19-3 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Rangers scored their first touchdown of the afternoon in the second quarter from a 10-yard pass completed on a Clarkson-to-Garner touchdown, making the game 43-10. Ouachita carried the 43-10 lead into the break to end the opening half.

The two teams traded touchdowns to open the third quarter: the Rangers scored their second touchdown of the game with a throw from Clarkson to Garner, resulting in his second touchdown of the afternoon. This completion was for a 33-yard touchdown. That would be all the scoring in the third quarter as the Tigers took a 50-17 lead into the final quarter.

The home team in the Tigers closed the game out with 14 points in the final quarter to win the game 64-17 over the Rangers Saturday.

The Rangers will return home on Oct. 9 as they face off against Arkansas Monticello at 4 p.m. for the Northwestern homecoming game and weekend.
