Women's cross country team places 10th at Fort Hays State

VICTORIA, Kansas – Northwestern returned to action on Saturday morning as the Women's Cross Country team traveled to participate in the Fort Hays State Tiger open. The Rangers placed 10th in the Black division Saturday with a score of 225.
"We are learning to run as a pack showing significant, consistent improvements in our team total time and average times. This Shows great teamwork, which will play an important role in the GAC Championships," stated head coach Jill Lancaster.
The Rangers had 11 total runners compete in the weekend's meets hosted by Fort Hays State. Mallory Boden led the Red and Black, finishing 25th in the meet scoring a 19 for the Rangers with a final time of 19:50.6.
Boden continues to lead the program as she has finished first in each meet for the Rangers. The Rangers had three runners run personal bests this morning in Smith, Gibson and Wilson.
Northwestern then had two runners place back-to-back in the '30s in Ronnie Jones at 37 for a score of 31 and a final time of 20:29.5, followed by Emily Smith in 38th with a final run time of 20:31.3.
The next finishers for the Rangers were Josie Gibson in 83rd for a 71 score with a final run time of 22:23.3, followed by Kyra Bentley in 85th with a final time of 22:31.8 for a score of 72.
Brianna Berryman ran for a score of 83 for the Rangers with a final run time of 23:36.7.
"Boden barely missed the podium by five spots but looked the strongest today then she has all season. The ladies ran though today going against some of the top junior colleges in Kansas. The women can use today's race as their last learning tool before heading into the GAC championships," stated coach Sterlin Broomfield.
Two Rangers – Melissa Perez and Gina Wilson – finished back-to-back for the Rangers with times of 24:55.9 and 24:56.3, respectively, for a score of 94 for Perez.
Mariah Thompson, Jean Dodds and Katelyn Dahn were the Rangers' next three finishers for three of the subsequent ten runners in the meet. Thompson ran a 25:41.6, Dodds ran a 26:09.9, and Dahn ran a 26:52.4 to round out the Women's Cross Country teams day at Fort Hays State.
Northwestern will return to action for the GAC championships for their next meet on Oct. 23.
